Celebrating success – Climate-smart agriculture in the Luangwa Valley

For the last four years the CEWG, in partnership with faculty from Natural Resources, Horticulture, Applied and Managerial Economics, Crop and Soil Sciences and the Baker Institute for Animal Health has been working with Community Markets for Conservation (COMACO) and the Wildlife Conservation Society to expand climate-smart agricultural practices. This project, funded by the Atkinson Center for a Sustainable Future, helped develop low-cost, practical tools for measuring soil carbon and carbon emissions as well as assess links between food security and climate-smart agricultural practices. Climate-smart agriculture is now common throughout the Luangwa Valley. As a result of this project, Cornell has built a strong and lasting partnership with COMACO, that they hope will lead to future collaboration between faculty, practitioners and students. The COMACO case is featured on the Conservation Bridge website as a collaborative learning tool. Click here to read the final project report.
